Some tight finishes at Coleraine Bowls finals

OVER the past few weeks the preliminary competitions for the Coleraine and District Indoor Bowling League championships have been taking place.

The finals took place at St Patricks last Thursday, with a very good crowd in attendance.

In the Junior Singles Adam Wilson (Kelly Memorial) took a lead of 10-1 over Gareth McConnell (Burnside) but Gareth played very well to come back to 10-7 with just the last end to play.

However Adam played the final end very well to win the Junior title.

In the Ladies Singles final Gladys Law of St Colum’s was on top form against June Teacy of Leck and ran out an deserved winner.

Next came the Men’s Singles final and this was a very hard fought game with John Nicholl (Burnside) managing to beat Benny Henry (1st Dunboe) in a tight finish.

The Pairs was another good final with Liam McNicholl and Russell Millar of Montra defeating George Simpson and Noel Bradley of Ballinteer) by a single shot.

The Triples was also a very close affair, with Victor Callaghan Benny Henry and Stephen McMullan of 1st Dunboe just managing to overcome June Teacy Adam McPherson and Earl Tannahill from Leck.

The rinks final pitted Cassie Campbell, Sylvia Kennedy, James Campbell and Russell Kennedy from Macosquin) against Stephen Telford, Delwyn McIntyre, Leslie McIntyre and Kenny McNeill of Ballinteer with Macosquin proving just too good on the day and winning comfortably.

The Over 55’s Pairs was a very close affair with Glen Kerr and Victor Millen(Ballinteer) overcoming Ethney Tosh and Graham Lowe (Ballywillan) on the last bowl of the final end.

During the evening two cheques were presented by the President Brian McAlister and Treasurer Robert McLaughlin for the charity money collected during the season in the Charity Cup matches. 800 was presented to the RNLI for 800.00 and 450 to Causeway Hospital’s Coronary Care Unit

In the last couple of weeks all the finals of the Cup matches have been played with Macosquin managing to win two of them.

Results:

McCandless Charity Cup Triples: Macosquin beat Montra.

Lexi Kirk Charity Cup: Macosquin beat Montra.

Chest Heart and Stroke Charity Cup: Leck beat St Colum’s.

McColgan Cup: Ballinteer beat Kelly Memorial.
