South 5s hold the Ports at Edenvilla

South Antrim Fifths travelled to Portadown last weekend, drawing 0-0.

They started brightly with early pressure resulting in a short corner but Andy Brown’s shot was well saved by the keeper.

This was a sign of things to come with South creating numerous chances but unable to convert with the Ports keeper on form.

As the half-wore on, Portadown began to look threatening, but like his opposite number, South keeper Andrew Wallace was a match for every effort.

Shane Geary impressed on his debut, and he was unlucky not to score after breaking through. but was unable to beat the keeper.

With two minutes left on the clock, Jack Farrell’s pass found Ian McElhinney free on the edge of the circle. Having beat one player, McElhinney’s shot forced a magnificient save from the Portadown keeper who then saved again from the rebound effort to leave the final score 0-0.

It was an improvement on the first meeting when South lost 2-0.
