South ladies earn spoils against Cooke

The ladies piled the pressure on as soon as the match started, with Morgan Miur, Alex Dugan and Elaine Aiken working the mid-field.

The Cooke ladies had no reply with most of the play happening at their end. South had two early penalty corners but they were unable to convert with the first half ending 0-0.

After a half-time team talk, the ladies decided speed is key and took an incredible assist from Lucy Fitzpatrick to cross over to Laura McConnell to break the scoreline shortly after the 2nd half whistle.

With a couple of injuries to the team, the ladies re-organised pushing Centre-back Jo Clarke to left wing and just as well; she took a stray ball in the opposition’s circle and scored a tremendous goal.

It was almost 3-0 to the girls as Rachel Sullivan’s routine penalty corner goal was disallowed. Well done to everyone who played and to Jo Clarke who got Player of the Match.

Seconds back to action

Following a few weeks of cancelled matches, the South Antrim Ladies 2s were fit and eager for their first match in their plate campaign.

Hosting Ballymena 4s at home, the ladies started strong, going on the attack from the starting whistle.

The girls efforts were rewarded quickly with two goals very early on in the game, scored by Laura McConnell and Chloe. Refusing to rest on their laurels, the girls continued to play to the same high standard, with some brilliant passing between the mid-fields and forwards.

The defence also worked tirelessly, with goal keeper Taylor Muir making some fantastic saves, and some seamless passing between the defenders to send the ball back up the pitch.

With half time over, the girls were ready to go again, determined to keep up the brilliant play. After some fantastic passing between Rachel Sullivan and Bethany Lockhart in the centre of the pitch, the girls efforts were once again rewarded with Laura scoring her second goal, bringing the score up to 3-0.

Chloe then showed off her skills, bringing the ball up from the 25 line despite some great defending from the Ballymena players, and scoring a fantastic goal, to reach the final score of the match, 4-0. Player of the match also went to Chloe for her two brilliant goals and work down the centre and right hand side of the pitch.

The scoreline reflected the excellent effort put in by all the girls on the pitch who are now eagerly looking forward to their next match in their plate campaign.

The U11 Girls have shown what the future of the club holds. In their recent Blitz day, at the Aurora Leisure, the girls improved on their previous performances showing that the hard work put in on a Saturday morning is definitely paying off. The U11 train on a Saturday morning, 8:30 – 9:30am, at the Laurelhill Sportszone.
