South Seconds end Bangor’s 100% record

South Antrim 2nds 4

Bangor 2nds 1

South Antrim Seconds got back to winning ways after their recent defeat in the Irish Junior Cup with this impressive performance against the only team in Junior league 2 with a 100% record.

South Antrim dominated this game almost from the very beginning and in the end the scoreline could have been even more convincing.

The first real opportunity fell to Neil Wilson after good approach play by John Semple, but a snatched shot saw the ball head harmlessly wide of the post.

South continued to cause a threat and eventually Paddy Cochrane found himself in the opponents circle on the left touchline and with space to work he fired in a shot from a tight angle. The ball was kept out of goal by a defender’s foot and the resultant penalty stroke was converted by Cochrane himself.

The second half was only a few minutes old when the normally reliable Kirkpatrick in the South defence passed the ball to the Bangor forward and the break that followed ended in an equalising goal for the visitors.

This was certainly against the run of play but did not lead to a turnaround in fortunes for Bangor. In fact the set back seemed to steel South even more.

Following a string of penalty corners for South, John Semple converted from close range after Paddy Cochrane delivered a pinpoint pass.

Another penalty corner conversion by Paddy Cochrane made the score 3-1 and with minutes to go, Neil Wilson added a fourth after great work through the middle from Jack Redpath and John Semple.

Overall this was a great performance from South Antrim and in particular the midfield of Paddy Cochrane, Jack Redpath and Willie Redpath Jnr deserve a mention for the way they dominated the opposition throughout.
