SPAR 10K Series comes to Coleraine

THE first SPAR Coleraine 10K road race is fast approaching, and organisers are hoping for even more success than was experienced at the 5K race earlier in the year. This is the third of the five race series sponsored by SPAR aimed at encouraging active lifestyles in the local community.

Places are still available for this ten kilometre race, which is being hosted by Springwell Running Club and the University of Ulster on Wednesday 14 July 2010 at 7.00pm.

The race starts and finishes at the University of Ulster sports centre and is staged under Athletics NI rules in collaboration with Champion Chip Ireland.

The route is two – laps starting on the Cromore Road, and goes towards Portstewart, back across Dundooan Road, down the Portstewart/Coleraine Road, across the Boulevard to Millburn Road, and finally the climb back up past the University where the second lap commences. Upon completing the circuit, runners will be filtered into the University grounds, under the finish gantry where the after race party and prize giving will be held at the Sports Centre.

An official from Springwell Running Club has described the race as "fast and flat”, and will be a fun event for runners of all abilities. The route provides a number of strategic vantage points for spectators.

As pre-entry closed on Friday, the cost of participating in the race is 15 for late entries, and all participants will be presented with a “goodie bag” and quality t-shirt. Registration will take place on the day (Wednesday 14 July) at the Sports Centre at the University of Ulster, Coleraine Campus from 5.00pm. All runners should note that registration will close sharp at 6.45 pm.
