Sperrin Harrier Colly Gallagher impressive at Bellaghy

Last weekend was a busy and distinguished one for the Sperrin Harriers, with members in attendance at Stranraer, Bellaghy, Gortin and various Parkruns.

Taking place outside Bellaghy on Saturday, the 10K event took in the beautiful area of Church Island. Running it was Harrier Colly Gallagher, who completed the course in a very impressive 40:30.

The hills of Gortin Forest Park played host to this challenging 5 mile run on Saturday, organised to assist charity ‘Cash for Kids’.

Consisting of both trail and road sections, Harriers Deirdre Conway and Stephanie Henry (who had tackled the Carmen 10K the previous day) completed the course after inadvertently running for an additional mile, Stephanie recording a time of 61:00.

Completing the coastal route at the Portrush Parkrun on Saturday was Colm McGuckian with a time of 24:06.

Leading the Harriers at the MUSA Cookstown Parkrun and finishing in the top 10 was Mel Hughes in 20:15, who was followed by Catherine Farley in 25:01. Kathy McKernan and Noreen Donnelly achieved personal bests with times of 28:14 and 28:39 respectively.

Finally, congratulations to everyone who took part over such an action packed weekend, but especially to Pauline McGurren, Angela O’Neill and Mark Reid for achieving so much for themselves and the Sperrin Harriers.

Sperrin Harriers FREE junior running camp continues on Tuesdays (6.30pm) at MUSA football courts which include flood lights and a 70m sprint track.

Weekly training takes place every Tuesday at 6:30pm in Loughry College and every Thursday night from Turkington’s car park at 6:30pm. Long run training takes place every Sunday at 9:00am leaving from ASDA car park. Track training is also available to members every Thursday at Gortgonis Track at 6.30pm and Friday at Meadowbank Sports Arena at 8pm.Cross country training continues in Loughry at noon on Sundays.
