The winners of the Cycling Ireland Annual Awards were announced at a prestigious dinner in Dublin on Saturday 2nd November 2013 with special guests including legends Sean Kelly and Stephen Roche, along with 2013 stars Dan Martin and Nicolas Roche. The night was also topped off by a World Cup win in the Points Race by Martyn Irvine, who was racing at the Velodrome in Manchester and is also a great supporter of the event.

When the Giant’s Causeway Coast Sportive was announced as the winner of Ireland’s Leisure Event of the Year, Beverley Pierson, Event Organiser from Outdoor Recreation NI commented: “We are so chuffed to have received this award; it gives the event great kudos especially as we were up against some of the best sportives in Ireland.

“We were delighted last year when the event was nominated for this award so to win it this year is just fantastic”.

Beverley also added, “Without our event partners, mainly Chain Reaction Cycles Flagship Store Belfast and Moyle District Council, this event would not be delivered to the standard it is so we must thank them for their continued support and effort they put into this event”.

The Cycling Ireland Awards are voted for by its members and presented some stiff competition for the sportive with a range of very well established events throughout Ireland also being nominated. Therefore by securing the most votes to take the trophy makes it clear that the event is highly regarded in the eyes of cyclists and is continuing to grow from strength to strength.

The organisers are hoping that 2014 will be an even bigger and exciting year for the Giant’s Causeway Coast Sportive considering that 4 months prior to the event, the Giro d’Italia will follow parts of the same route.
