Last year’s beaten finalists, Ballynahinch 2nds, are on the road and will face a difficult task against an in-form Ballymoney side. The first semi final will see Kukri Qualifying League 2 leaders Ballyclare, who defeated reigning champions Clogher Valley in the quarter finals, travel to play Coleraine.

The semi final fixtures will be played on or before Saturday 30th November, with the final scheduled for Ulster Rugby HQ on Tuesday 17th December.

Dalriada Showjumpers

The Dalriada Show Jumping team returned to form when they competed in the second round of the Ulster Schools’ Show Jumping league held at Knockagh View equestrian centre.

With the departure of several team members to university this year, the school team have had to regroup with new combinations of horse and rider.

The team got off to a solid start with team captain Kathie Woodrow jumping a steady couple of

rounds, being unlucky to tip a pole at an upright in the first round.

This put pressure on Kathie’s brother Sam, who had to jump clear on his new mount Poppy in the first round, to leave the team on an overall score of zero.

The next two riders, Karlie Anderson on the very lively Ellie, and the baby of the team Shauna McVeigh on Joe, kept cool heads to jump two double clears. This put the Dalriads into the jump off as one of only three teams to have an overall score of zero.

After a very exciting jump off Karlie and Shauna helped the team finish in a very creditable second place, sandwiched between the two Ballymena Academy teams in first and third.

The team look forward to the next tinsel themed round in early December. Many thanks go to all the dedicated parents for driving and supporting the team.

Scorpion boxers in Portugal

Paul Donnelly (pictured right)and Karol Dlugosz, members of the Scorpion Boxing Club in Ballymoney, returned home after a week long Multi Nations Tournament in Lisbon in Portugal. They were there representing Co. Antrim against boxers from Spain Portugal and Brazil.

They contested 3 contests each and Paul Donnelly really turned on the style as he won his first contest on points and progressed to easily beat the Spaniard in his second bout. Paul showed all his class by putting in an excellent display in the final bout against his Brazillian opponent, stopping him in the third round and claiming the Gold Medal at 64 kilo.

Karol fighting at 81 kilo lost his first bout in a contest most thought he had done enough to get the verdict. He progressed to win his second bout only to lose his final bout by decision and claim a Bronze medal.

However it was a great learning experience for the current Ulster Intermediate Champ who at 18 years is still relatively inexperienced and will have taken a lot from this.

All in all it capped another great week for Scorpion and with some of its boxers heading off to Switzerland and the USA early next year it promises to be another exciting season.

Miss Peacock said: “Michael is a very talented young boxer, he is the holder of five All Ireland titles to date and narrowly missed out on reaching the final on this occasion with a final 29-28 split decision. “Michael is from Rasharkin and boxes for the Errigal Amateur Boxing Club in Ballerin, he is rated among the top boxers in Ulster.

“ It is wonderful to see a local talent gain such high accreditation and achievement in his sport and such local talent should be encouraged and supported by the local community at every turn around.”

Miss Peacock added: “ I am an avid supporter and good friend of Michael and I will continue to support him into the future and would like to wish him every success as he pursues his career in amateur boxing”.
