Springwell Juniors at School Games

SPRINGWELL Juniors Ashley Cairns, Holly Clark and Sally Brown were part of the Belfast (NI) team competing at the Sainsbury's UK School Games in the North East of England from the 2-5 September.

Sally Brown was once again among the medals winning gold in the Ambulant Girls 200m in 27.49. Holly Clark ran a PB to finish seventh in the Girls 200m in 26.66. Both girls were part of the 4x100m relay team which finished 5th in 49.29. Ashley Cairns finished eighth in the 800m in 2.08.79 and was a member of the 4x400m relay team which also finished eighth in 3.36.44.

Stephen Joyce was Springwell’s sole representative at the SPAR Laganside 10K on Sunday. Stephen finished 26th in 36:24 with the windy conditions effecting the times. Willowfield’s Brian Campbell led the 690 runner’s home in 32:01 with Gladys Ganiel O’Neill first lady in 36:46.

Springwell had two runners at the Kelly Reid 10K in Draperstown 10K on Saturday. Almost 100 runners plus walkers completed the third running of this event. This tough course at was made more difficult with the persistent heavy rain.

Jim Breen was first Springwell home in fifth pace overall in a good time of 38:34. Thomas Moore ran 40:58 for a PB. This was Thomas’s second PB that week, having just set a new PB for 5K in Portglenone two days previously.

Springwell athletes travelled to Portglenone on Thursday evening for the Annual Run ‘n the Bann 5K which was one of the opening events in the Gig ‘n the Bann Festival. The race attracted a record field as 151 runners on a lovely summers evening for the run along the side of the Bann.

Foyle Valley’s Scott Rankin held of the challenge of Ballymena’s Jack Neeson to win by two seconds in 16:12. North Belfast’s Breege Connolly was first female in 17:50 with Claire Connor second in 20:10. Bryan Edgar was the first Springwell Runner home finishing 13th in 17:58 followed by Hugh Boyle 19:08, Leslie Ashe 19:13, Thomas Moore 20:14 (PB), Conor McKeown 21:26. Scott Bell 22:49, Kay Hack 22:50 (1st FO40), Joe McEvoy 23:19, Kealan Getty 23:41, Brendan McLaughlin 25:47, Karen Morrison 27:00, Debbie Tutty 29:42, Fiona Walls 31:37, Rebecca Clarke 34:31.

Johnny Goldie and Harry Reilly made the long journey to Longford on Sunday 29 August for the Longford marathon. Harry completed the 26.2 miles in 3:28 and Johnny 3:38.
