Springwell runners perform well in Magherafelt

Springwell Runners made the short journey to Magherafelt on Saturday for a four mile race organised by Maghersfelt Harriers.

Springwell’s Bryan Edgar led the field home in 23:21 with City of Derry’s Anne Paul first lady in 25:45.

On Saturday 16 November Springwell’s Gillian Wasson pulled on her Northern Ireland vest to represent her country at the British & Irish Masters Cross Country International in Cardiff. Gillian finished 43rd overall and was second Northern Ireland finisher for the Female 35 team in 22:59.

Abigail McBroom travelled to Santry, Dublin on Sunday 17 November for the AAI National Even Age Group Cross Country Championships. Abigail was running in the girls U14 race over 3000m. There was some confusion during the race as the runners were turned into the finish instead of completing another short lap. Realising she was heading for the finish Abigail put on a sprint and finished 18th out of 148 runners.

Springwell’s Alistair Shaw travelled to Sixmilebridge, Co Clare at the weekend (11 & 17 November) for the Eddie Murphy Memorial Marathon & Ultra Marathon. The race are organised BMOH Athletic Club in memory of Eddie is unique in that it is run over a one mile loop with the infamous heart break hill to be tackled on each lap. On Saturday Alistair ran the marathon (26 laps) in 3:43:27 and Sunday the Ultra (52 Laps) in 8:52:11.

High tide meant soft sand for the 45 runner at Saturdays Portrush Parkrun. Springwell’s Paul Thompson was the first runner home in a PB time of 18:52. Elizabeth Dawson on her first out at Portrush was the first lady home in 22:42.

Conditions were good for the 53 runners at Portrush parkrun on Saturday 16 November. Firm sand and light winds led to 28 PB’s. Springwell’s Chris Denton (18:16) was the first runner home holding off a late challenge of team mate Bryan Edgar. Lagan Valley’s Julie Murphy was the first lady home in a PB time of 20:38.
