St Brigid's star at Casement Park

AT half-time in last week's National Hurling League game at Casement Park Belfast, the hurling and camogie players from St. Brigid's Primary School Ballymoney took on Main Integrated Primary School (Randalstown] in a challenge game.

The Ballymoney school have, over the past few years, developed Gaelic games through the school’s PE curriculum as well as a popular after school activity. The school’s staff supported by Roisin Keenan [Ulster Council/Department of Education] and Dominic McKinley [Co. Antrim Officer] have developed the children’s skills in the game as well as their enjoyment of hurling and camogie.

St. Brigid’s participate in the North Antrim leagues in both hurling and camogie.

This winter the pupils competed strongly in indoor competitions and they now look forward to outdoor competitions in Term III.

The appearance at Casement Park during the Antrim v Clare game was a big moment for the boys and girls and they thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.

Miss Aileen McCormick [teacher & coach] was full of praise for the children.

She said: “A great deal of work went into preparing the children for this game and their performance on the pitch showed just how skilful our pupils are.

“I’d like to acknowledge the support the school receives from the County Board and our parents in promoting Gaelic games in St. Brigid’s Ballymoney.”
