St Pat’s B undefeated in Mid-Ulster

The Mid Ulster Snooker League Cup is reaching its conclusion but it is still up in the air as to who will be competing in this years final.

Group A is a straight shoot out between the St Pat’s teams with the advantage currently with the ‘B’ team as they are two points ahead of St Pat’s A.

Group B looks like it will be determined by the last match showdown between Longfield and Swa Men as the teams are separated by the smallest of margins.

Longfield got their season of to an ideal start with a comprehensive victory over the visiting Pot Black B team.

The returning Martin O’Hagan defeated youngster Feargal Quinn with his greater experience proving crucial as the Desermartin man required a snooker on the last pink. O’Hagan played the perfect shot that forced his young opponent into playing a foul shot and he captialised by potting the last two balls to claim victory.

Philip O’ Hagan then defeated Joe Mc Garrity to move his side 2-0 in front but this quickly negated when Conor Gillespie defeated Noel Mc Allister. The O’Hagan brothers then combined in the doubles match to defeat Joe Mc Garrity and Conor Gillespie.

With the score 3-1 in favour of Longfield the last frame was going to prove crucial as both teams need the crucial bonus point. Seamus Kane defeated Conor Gillespie with the handicap difference proving too much for the Cookstown cueist.

Teams are urged to check the format as a player cannot play two single frames and a doubles match on the same night, it would appear that this was the case in the Longfield v Pot Black B match.

St Pat’s C travelled to Swa Men and started the season on the same note that they finished last season. The Magherafelt side simply had no answer to a rampant home side but due to the lack of information provided all we can provide is the 5-0 result in favour of Swa Men.

All teams are reminded to text through the information on each match in order for results to be recorded correctly.

St Pat’s B continued their onslaught in Group A with their third consecutive 4-1 victory in the league cup. This time around former league champions Pot Black were the team that faced the might of Doyle, Cassidy and the returning Hugh Mulholland.

Paul Mc Guckin had a tough time against the experienced Mulholland as he lost the opening singles frame as well as the bonus frame. Sean Doyle defeated John Halferty with the help of an excellent break of 67.

Mickey Quinn halted the onslaught as he defeated Kieran Cassidy to leave the score 3-1 in favour of St Pat’s B. The last game was the doubles match and once again Sean Doyle came up trumps this time partnered by Kieran Cassidy. The Magherafelt duo were hard pushed but managed to scrape home against Mickey Quinn and Daniel McGuckin.

Crocknamohill entertained St Kevin’s and managed to get their first victory of the season with a narrow 3-2 victory against The Loup outfit. Match details were again brief but the outcome of the match was determined by victories for Kevin Murray over Gerry Mc Auley, Liam Kelly defeated Dessie Murray, Jordan Shivers defeated Dermot Mc Auley, Gerry Mc Auly defeated Declan Smith in the bonus frame and the Liam Kelly/Dermot Mc Auley combination defeated Kevin and Dessie Murray in the doubles.
