Steelers get show on road for Alpha

Alpha Steelers made an impressive start to the defence of their Division One title in the Ulster Badminton League on Monday evening with a 7-1 defeat of ACBC Greenwell Street.

With only seven points between the pair last year it was important for the young Alpha side to a good ‘first night’ though the Ards side will have been encouraged that five of the eight matches went to three sets.

In the top mens doubles Alpha had Stuart Lightbody and Ciaran Chambers in an uncompromising mood winning 21-15 21-9 but John McCreedy and Jon Harron were given a few problems in the No2 doubles spot coming through 21-18 21-18.
