Stephen's medal success at Amputee Games

BANBRIDGE man Stephen Lowry won bronze in his first attempt at the 2010 Amputee Games at the Mandeville Stadium in Stoke.

Stephen currently wears a bionic limb, having lost his right arm in an INLA bomb blast while working at a nightclub in Newry almost 24 years ago.

And now he is celebrating after picking up a medal in rifle shooting at the Games.

The Games are seen as a window into the Paralympic Games in 2012 so there was a big opportunity to impress ahead of the event in London in two years time.

"Ever since Stephen lost his arm in 1985 it hasn't kept him back and we are all so proud of him," said his wife, Pamela.

"He only recently had surgery in his shoulder and now he is shooting with ex-soldiers.

"Stephen is currently trialing limbs with Musgrave so he is at the forefront of the latest technology to help him in his sport."
