Stevenson rockets to a win at Royal Portrush

THINGS did not start well for six handicapper Gary Stevenson at Royal Portrush on Saturday where he started with a blank.

He did steady the ship somewhat and finished the front nine on seventeen points. Normal service was resumed on the inward nine with birdies being logged at the par five tenth and the par four sixteenth. Bogies at seventeen and eighteen ran things close but his 35 total was enough to take the honours.

Silver section winner was Richard McClements, playing off six, who returned 34 points. Another steady round with only one blip, a blank at the fourth, to note.

Bronze was won by A Ridley for his 32 points. A couple of blanks on the outward half pegged the score back to twelve but a burst of form coming home added another 20.

Best gross prize was claimed by Ian Kerr with his score of 78. This was also good enough to clinch the Stableford Final prize as well. A couple of birdies and a couple of double bogies for the three handicapper gave him 33 stableford points and the victory in the Stablefords Final.
