Strabane teenagers continue to shine

STRABANE High School U13 cricket team complete the double with an empathic 143 run victory over R.B.A.I in Belfast to win the Slemish Cup.

After being put into bat Strabane got of to an excellent start through G McClintock and W McBrine scoring 78 runs of 9 overs.

Both batsman played shots to all parts of the field before G McClintock was caught at deep mid wicket after scoring an excellent 77. This brought W McClintock to the wicket who continued to score runs quickly scoring a quick 40 before being caught in the deep. W McBrine battled well scoring 58 before being out for a good knock. L Hayes scored a quick 19 before the High School innings finished on 212 for 3.

In reply R.B.A.I got off to a poor start due to some good bowling from the McClintock twins William and Gary, reducing the home side to 9 for 3 after 4 overs. R.B.A.I never recovered and wickets fell on a regular basis with W McBrine picking up 3 wickets for 14.

This was well supported by some good fielding. The last innings closed on 69 all out giving Strabane High School the double by 143 runs.

While the schools U15 girls retained the Northern Ireland cricket cup for the third successive year defeating Wallace High School Lisburn in the final.

After losing the toss and being put into bat Strabane got off to a poor start losing their opening pair of Jessica Moorehead and captain Emma Dougherty early on.

Rachel McBrine and Sheree Dougherty steadied things and got the score moving until McBrine was well caught after scoring 17 runs leaving Dougherty to increase the run rate before she was run out for 40.

Sheree who was awarded player of the match was well supported by Nicole Robinson who finished on 12 not out. After the allotted 20 overs the Strabane innings finished on an impressive 119 for 5.

In reply Wallace never got to grips with the accurate Strabane bowling and wickets fell rapidly as E.Dougherty, Robinson, Brandon and S Dougherty kept the pressure on.

None of the Wallace players reached double figures due to the efficient and effective Strabane fielding and bowling with Sheree Dougherty finishing 3 for 9 and Leanne Brandon 2 for 3 giving Strabane High School victory by 72 runs.
