Stranocum Foyled at Institute

STRANOCUM Youths travelled to Drumahoe on Saturday to play Institute Youths in the North West & Coleraine District Youth League. The opening minutes saw Institute do most of the attacking until Stranocum settled and set up some attacks of their own. However, after fifteen minutes Institute took the lead when the ball wasn’t cleared from the Stranocum penalty area and fell to a home forward who scored from ten yards.

Stranocum continued to work hard for each other and created a couple of scoring opportunities which were saved by the Institute keeper. Five minutes before half time Institute extended their lead when they scored directly from a corner. This left the score 2-0 at half time.

The first fifteen minutes of the second half was similar to the first with both teams attacking and creating chances. Stranocum then upped their game and began to dominate. This paid off when Eoin Dobbin volleyed home from twelve yards to reduce the defecit to 2-1.

Stranocum continued to press and created a number of good chances which unfortunately weren’t converted leaving the final score 2-1 to Institute.

Although defeated, Stranocum never gave up and showed, particularly in the last quarter of the match, that they are capable of competing with the best teams in the league.
