Stranocum hit rivals for six

Stranocum Youths U12's 6 v 1 Moyola Youths U12's

STRANOCUM Youths entertained Moyola Youths in the North West & Coleraine District Youth League on Saturday in Dervock.

With Moyola struggling at the lower end of the league, this was a game which Stranocum were expected to win and they started well with numerous attacks on the Moyola goal.

After 10 minutes Stranocum opened the scoring when Paul Reid scored with a shot from 12 yards.

This should have given Stranocum the confidence to go on and score further goals but their performance for the rest of the first half was disappointing.

This allowed Moyola to get into the game and just before half time they equalized following a scramble in the Stranocum six yard area leaving the score 1-1 at the break.

Stranocum came out for the second half with a more determined attitude and within two minutes they went ahead when Mark McConaghie headed home Craig Cunningham’s cross to make it 2-1.

Moyola also had a few attacks and Owen McLaughlin in goal for Stranocum made a couple of good saves. On forty five minutes Mark McConaghie increased Stranocum’s lead with a shot to the corner of the Moyola net making it 3-1.

Three players, Lewis Quinn, Daniel Leighton and Luis McMaster all played well on their league debuts for Stranocum and on fifty minutes it was Lewis Quinn who made it 4-1 with a shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Stranocum continued the attacks with Craig Cunningham scoring from the corner of the area to make it 5-1 and Lewis Quinn completing the scoring with a low shot which the Moyola keeper failed to hold leaving the final score 6-1. Stranocum’s second half performance was a big improvement on the first and hopefully the players can continue this into next week’s match with Tobermore.
