Street League conclusion 'unfortunate' - Jordan

COOKSTOWN Street League Fixtures Secretary Willie Jordan described the conclusion of this year's McConnell's Intersport Street League as 'unfortunate', but has defended the competition as a whole.

Speaking to the MAIL, Willie said "Yes, the match was unfortunate. There were alot of yellow cards in the first half, so in that sense maybe a few reds were inevitable.

"It was a competitive match and sometimes, the will to win takes over and sends people over the top. It's disappointing. "From a disciplinary point of view, there is little we can do at this stage, but of course the players who were expelled will receive bans if they play next year.

"Generally, however, I was extremely pleased with this year's competition. There were alot of goals and alot of fantastic games."

Willie also had good things to say about the use of the pitches at Fairhill, after an absence of some years.

"This year, we expanded the Street League to 28 teams and again used Fairhill. It proved a great success, with some great crowds up there.

"Depending on the condition of the pitches at Fairhill, we will certainly be looking into using them again next year."
