Greyabbey 10k

The action kicked off on Friday (July 4) when Chris and Rowena Davis joined almost 300 running enthusiasts for the annual Greyabbey 10k and 5k race.

After his impressive mile time-trial on Thursday, Chris put in a strong performance which resulted in a well-deserved new 10k personal best of 42:42, securing 53rd place. Unfortunately, Rowena sustained an injury during the final stages of the 5k and everyone at East Coast AC wishes her a speedy recovery.

Two of East Coast AC’s mountain runners took part in Saturday’s Spelga Skyline race - the sixth of the 2014 Northern Ireland Mountain Running Championships series. Justin Maxwell and Mark McManus completed the 12.5-mile course, including 1,558m of ascent, covering nine summits of the scenic Mourne Mountains.

Justin showed no signs of fatigue from his exploits in last week’s Skyrunning World Championships in France when he covered the course in 3:18:54 (12th place). Former junior international mountain runner, McManus made a welcome return to competition on his old stomping ground and impressed in a time of 3:26:21 (14th).

Parkrun

Seventeen East Coast AC members ran the 5k Larne parkrun with Andy Guy taking first place in a time of 18:39. Daniel Girvin secured third (19:54) and Stephen Millar added a new personal best to his records when he crossed the line in 21:42 (8th).

Last weekend’s bronze medallist from the Athletics NI Half Marathon Championships – Janice Plumb - was the fastest lady of the day by almost three minutes when she covered the 5k course in 21:57 (1st place lady). More parkrun results available here Charity Cycling Sportive
