Strong displays from Hardie and Smart at Run in the Dark event

While local runners were making their way round Stormont with their head torches, thousands of others were doing the same in Dublin, Cork Manchester and London and in 30 cities world wide, all in support of the Mark Pollock Trust, which is aiming to find a cure for spinal cord injuries.

In the 10K, Lyn Hardie was first across the line for the Harriers in a time of 52:00, followed by Gillian Orr (55:45) and Clarke McCartney (55:55).

In the 5k, Louise Smart finished as fourth female in 23:01, with Jennifer Hardie (25.39), Christine Neeson (27.22), Marian Hayes (29.22), Marion Morrow (29.32), Eileen Stewart (32.58) and Grace Startin (33.39) all making it safely round the tough course. Randall Smyth had a bad fall, resulting in him having to have stitches around his eye, but in true CAH style, he carried on and completed the course, before heading to accident and emergency.

Next stop on the race calendar was the 26 Extreme Tollymore trail marathon events, held in tough, wet conditions, on a difficult course.

In the 10k, Raymond Hilman led the Harriers home in (56.16), followed by Marion Morrow (1:05:16), Ally Bennett (1:06:42) and Kim Gleave (1:07:42).

In the half-marathon Irene Downey took the honours for the club, crossing the line in 2:06:22, followed by Paula McMaster (2:11:10) and Talitha Collins (2:30:00).
