Strong displays from Larne AC’s Blair and Thompson

Larne Athletic Club’s Patricia Blair travelled to Cookstown on Friday to take part in the annual Stanley Reid Memorial 5-mile road race.

In what the race organisers described as a undulating but fast course, Patricia ran strongly to finish as fourth female overall in 33:02. Her time was good enough to secure first place in the FV35 category.

Three club members took part in the inaugural Kells and Connor half-marathon which was a fund-raising event for Macmillan Cancer Support. The rural course was very challenging but Billy Thompson produced his best half-marathon performance this year to finish in second spot in a time of 1:25.23.

Heather Baxter finished as third female in a time of 1:51.38, while Ricky Mann ran strongly to finish in 1.53.35.

At the Lurig Mountain race in Cushendall, Larne AC’s Martan Keane, John Neil, Nigel Kane and Bobbie Garrett claimed third-placed team.

Michael McCambridge, Stephen Montgomery and Ryan Stewart took part in Sunday’s inaugural Dublin Ironman 70.3.

The race consisted of a 1,900m swim at Dun Laoghaire, followed by a 90k bike ride, finishing with a 21k run around Phoenix Park.

Michael finished in a time of 4:53:30, Ryan 5:18:25and Stephen in 5:33:40.
