Strong finishing Emmets deny the St Mary’s win

Brocagh were looking to build on a good win over Clogher prior to the mid-July break and they did just that following a fine game of football. It was 1-8 to 1-7 over the interval, Paraic Bell bagging the home goal and Ryan McKenna hitting the net for the St Mary’s.

Enda McGahan and Mickey Donnelly topped the Killyman point returns with nine all told between them, Declan Boyle, McKenna, Niall McAlinden and Damian McNulty also getting on the away scoresheet.

Brocagh, though, belted over twelve second half points as Michael Hughes, Justin Campbell and Donal Robinson led a charge that carried the Emmets over the winning line in impressive fashion.

The St Mary’s were on terms inside the last ten minutes but a six-point surge helped secure back-to-back Brocagh home wins.

The Red Knights of Beragh got the better of hosts Fintona but only just after a tight contest that attracted some thunder and lightning for company midway through proceedings.

Three points courtesy of Martin Rodgers enabled Beragh to stay in close touch with their opponents by half-time here at 0-5 to 0-4, Aaron McCarney landing a brace for the Pearses.

Declan McCann netted a major for the Knights in the middle of the second 30 minutes, a McCarney penalty coming in reply for Fintona but they could not reel in the Red Knights.

GLENELLY 1-12 OWEN ROES 1-10

This proved to be a case of getting your nose in front when it mattered as Glenelly pounced late to deny Owen Roes who had led for most of the match.

The Roes showed ahead midway through 0-5 to 0-2 after Brendan Boggs landed some tidy scores. Fergal McNulty then goaled for them during the course of the last half as Seamus Harkin and Conal McCullagh kept the host St Joseph’s in touch.

Owen Roes still led by two inside the closing seven minutes or so but a 1-4 scoring burst, that contained a last minute Ronan O’Kane goal as it’s decisive centrepiece, sealed success for the St Joseph’s.

The St Theresa’s continue to set a hot pace at the top of the table, although they had to call on plenty of their resources to thwart a tenacious Tattyreagh team.

Ronan Ward, Sean-Paul Slane and Brendan Donaghy supplied the great majority of scores as Loughmacrory notched nine first half points but goals from Mickey Allen and Conor Taggart kept the St Patrick’s on terms at the break by 0-9 to 2-3.

Loughmacrory had obstacles to overcome in the final half but that trio of Ward, Slane and Donaghy helped them carve out a hard-earned win as the Tatts came up a few points short.

AGHALOO 0-14 CLOGHER 1-13

These Valley neighbours served up quite a tussle that ebbed and flowed a bit like the River Blackwater that runs nearby the O’Neill’s base.

Aghaloo had arrested a slide in from last time out when getting the better of Killeeshil, the same day as Brocagh dented a decent run from the men of Clogher.

The teams could not be divided over the interval on 0-6 each but Aghaloo managed to edge ahead after Tiarnan Donnelly and Rory McGlone got among the scores.

Clogher, though, refused to wilt and a Jamie Callaghan goal plus Mark Bogue point late on gave the Eire Og’s victory.

DRUMRAGH 3-12 ERRIGAL CIARAN 1-7

Goals at opportune times helped Drumragh seal a second success of the season at home to an Errigal Thirds side still seeking to a first win in the league this year.

Paul Maguire pointed the way for Drumragh in terms of major strikes here with a double goal whammy that put some daylight between the teams as play progressed.

Errigal Ciaran, to their credit, kept battling away and they would have been closer with somewhat sharper finishing in range of the posts. Paul Maguire landed four points to go with his two goals, Martin Lowry bagging the other home goal to wrap up the win.
