Students learn important lessons at Ballymena RFC

STUDENTS from the Northern Regional College attended Eaton Park recently to discover what role rugby plays in community development.

The boys were engaged in a project entitled ‘Crossing the Line’ which looked at religion in sport.

Tom Wiggins, Ballymena RFC and Ballymena Council’s Community Rugby Development Officer facilitated the visit and enlisted the help of several youth players.

The students were given a tour of the premises and in addition to hearing about the proud history of BRFC they also heard how successful the Club have been in bringing rugby to all sections of the local community.

Tom stated: “It was great to have the boys at the Club and let them understand the efforts we have made as a Club to work in all communities.”

The students were informed of recent projects with All Saints GAA and the Club’s continuing work in all post primary schools within the Borough.

However it wasn’t all talk the boys enjoyed a game of TAG rugby as well as being given the opportunity to find out what its like to be ‘lifted’ in a lineout and how hard it is to move the scrummage machine.
