Sub Teggart gives Town vital point

Banbridge Town 1

Glebe Rangers 1

SUBSTITUTE Mark Teggart salvaged a vital point for Banbridge Town on Saturday afternoon with a late strike against fellow strugglers Glebe Rangers.

The result leaves Town eight points clear of the Ladbrokes.com Championship 1 relegation zone, with Coagh’s 4-0 loss to Donegal Celtic and Armagh’s Friday night draw at home to Ballinamallard.

That means that the Town’s trip to the Mallards on Saturday (3pm) becomes vital as they aim to secure their safety in the Ladbrokes.com Championship 1.

They were left stunned on 40 minutes when Rangers took the lead. Kennaway was able to coast in past the Town defence to slam a header home into the back of the net.

On 54 minutes they could have doubled that lead when Trevor Parkhill fired just over the top of David Wilton’s goal.

Town did push for an equalizer but were denied time and time again by Stuart Moore, who was having an absolute stormer in the Rangers backline.

Again on 75 minutes Rangers could have had another as Richard Lynch could only watch his shot come back out off the inside of the post with Wilton beaten.

With 10 minutes to go Town got their equaliser when Teggart beat the home defence and slotted home past Rangers’ custodian Kane.

And with minutes to spare in the game Neil King went close to snatching all three points for the Town but his chance went begging.

The situation at the bottom of the table sees Armagh City all but consigned to Championship 2 with just 10 points from 22 games, although they still have a game in hand over third from bottom Glebe so mathematically they are not relegated just yet – defeat away to Larne on Tuesday night would see that secured, however.

Second from bottom Coagh have played two games less than Banbridge Town and there is a gap of eight points between them.

Ballyclare Comrades will also feel Coagh breathing down their neck if their poor form continues as with six games to go for both sides and a gap of six points between them these two teams will prove to be the ones to watch in the Town’s battle against the drop.
