Success at All-Ireland Championships

A small contingent from Coleraine attended the All Ireland Judo Championships in Burnfoot, Donegal last weekend, where local judoka Rebecca and Stephen Cuckoo won silver medals.

Rebecca succeeded in winning silver in both the Junior and Senior under 63Kg category while brother Stephen secured his silver in the Junior under 81kg category with a spectacular ippon throw (10 point) in his semi-final contest. The All-Ireland is an annual premier championship organized by the Irish Judo Association.

Also travelling to the event was the Club’s new Performance Coach Gary Jackson and Club Secretary Peter Cuckoo who is also the Club’s Welfare Officer and a judo table official. Readers interested in taking up this Olympic combat sport for competition, exercise or just good fun should come along to the Leisure Centre and join in. Club times are: Friday – Juniors 7:30 - 8:30, Seniors 8:30 – 9:30 and Tuesday Seniors 8:00 – 9:30
