Success continues for the YMCA Ladies

AFTER their fantastic season last year with the U-16s winning the NI Tesco Cup and then the senior team winning the NIWFA Senior Championship and promotion into the NIWFA Premier League, YMCA Ladies FC success continues unabated and the season hasn't even started yet.

Both Kendra McMullan and Avila Bergin have been selected to play for the NI Senior Women’s team (aged only 17 and 18 respectively) and Aine McKeever has just been selected for the Republic of Ireland U19 squad who play holders Sweden, England (runners-up) and Turkey in the u-19 European Qualifiers in Sweden at the end of March.

Prior to travelling to Sweden, the team will fly to the Algarve on 27 Feb for a training camp. This is a magnificent achievement for all three girls and reflects very positively on the YMCA club.

Furthermore both Avila and Aine have received four year scholarship offers from the USA and are likely to take these up in August this year!

Avila has been offered a scholarship at Fordham University, New York and Aine has been offered a scholarship at Quinnipiac University, Connecticut. This really is a once in a lifetime opportunity which the two girls have earned through hard work and dedication.

So some exciting times lie ahead for the girls over the next few weeks and months with International travel and international competition - never mind YMCA Ladies FC making their Premier League debut in April when the season begins.

YMCA training takes place every Tuesday night at the YMCA Grounds, Drumahoe, 7pm - 9pm. New members always welcome.
