Havelock Tournament

A great day’s hockey was played and as usual the girls brought their mums and dads who provide great support and loud cheering to roar the girls on.

The club had a very successful day with third for P6, runners up for P5 and P4 and P7 coming out as champions.

And if first. two seconds and a third position wasn’t enough, there was added success for Lara in P5 who was also named P5 player of the tournament, a great honour with so many girls present and confirmation of the winning performance that she puts in at every game and practice.

Primary 6, coached by Veronica Cummins, came home third and although beaten 2-0 by Portadown who were the team to beat in all age groups this week, they held Portadown B to 0-0 and Lurgan to 0-0. Dromore beat home team Havelock 3-0.

Primary 5 beat Lurgan 1 -0 and their draw against Portadown 1-1 set them up for runners up in the tournament, well done to P5 and Sarah Wilson coaching.

Primary 4, coached by Michelle Herron, were runners-up and are a team and age group who show great promise.

The Primary 7s were in fine form following on from last week, with a strong opening win of 3-1 against Havelock. They then held Lurgan to a scoreless draw before a decisive 5-0 win over hosts Banbridge.

The final match was against a strong Portadown team but they put in an early goal to put them under early pressure and went on to win 2-0, taking the P7 trophy.

Strong hockey was the order of the day allowing this determined team to put a winning performance under coach Collin McClelland. Goals were scored by Zara, Emer and double scoring power from twins Kate and Imogen so a great team effort and superb passing and use of the pitch.

Dromore Tournament

Ferris Park, Dromore played host on Saturday to seven junior hockey clubs playing teams from P3 to P7 as they descended upon Dromore for the Junior Club’s end of season tournament and fundraiser.

Dromore were joined by Lurgan, Ballynahinch, Banbridge, Pegasus, Lisnagarvey, Portadown and Saintfield. The day, which raises funds for the junior club, had loads of hockey with burgers and hotdogs on the go, teas and coffee with traybakes, facepaints, bouncy castles and loombands for the kids, icecreams and a tuckshop with music by resident Dromore DJ Lauren Pedlow.

Play kicked off at 9.50 with the playoffs for bronze, silver and gold in each section at the end of the day giving a nail biting finish before awards were handed out by Club President Ruth Ravey and Junior Co-ordinator Andrea Wilson.

A fantastic day was had by all with a huge turnout of girls with their coaches and supporters. Thank you to all who supported the annual event and the many volunteers of parents, siblings, partners, Under 15s and senior players, who helped setup, run and organise such a huge event.

Dromore followed their recent run of success at other tournaments with a near clean sweep of silver in the finals of all age groups bringing our P3,P4, P5 and P7 teams home in the runners up position. Again the girls’ play and success at all age groups shows how the club’s development is achieving great results in all age groups. Thanks again to everyone who helped and to all the clubs who supported the day.
