Success for locals in IBA Cups

Portrush enjoyed their day in the sun at Saintfield by recording a scorching 89-44 success, with Ian McClure, Kevin O’Neill and Jackie Smyth all scoring easy rink wins in the third round of the Goulding's sponsored Senior Cup.

Kevin O'Neill top scored with a 25-shot win over P Fern.

Meanwhile, last season;s beaten finalists, Cookstown, are also still in the mix.

They had little difficultly in taking care of NIBA division two side Ormeau at Gunningmore Park, recording a 95-53 win.

Colin Hogg was the pick of the Cookstown skips, storming to a 30-10 win over Roy McBride.

Mark Wilson beat Raymond Pauloey 24-12, while Liam McHugh and Tommy McAleavey made it a full house with respective victories over Gerry McCrumlish (23-18) and Billy Moran (18-13).

There was joy in the Junior Cup too as Catlerock won again to make it through to the fourth round.

County Down side BETS were their opponents this time as the hosts won three of the four rinks to seal a 17-shot win.

Liam McLaughlin edged out J Fitzsimmons by two, Jackie Hutchinson had an excellent 17-shot win over W Kalkner and Victor Callaghan beat H Thomas by seven.

Ballymoney B are through also following their five shot home win over Downpatrick. The Toon won three rinks with Robert McBride top scoring with a 12-shot win over P Rooney.

Cookstown broke the 100-shot barrier as they grabbed a 32-shot away win over Curran. P Mitchell's 22-shot win over S Colburn set them up for a comprehensive win.
