The tournament was played in two sections in the course of the day, using Loreto’s two main halls.

In Section A, Loreto finished in second place, recording a 7-0 victory against Dunluce School, a 13-0 victory against North Coast Integrated College, drawing 4-4 with Dominican College Portstewart and drawing 1-1 with Our Lady of Lourdes HS Ballymoney.

Loreto then narrowly defeated Limavady Grammar for second place in Section A through goal difference, having earlier drawn 1-1 with them.

This meant that the Loreto team went on to play the winners of Section B, Cross & Passion College Ballycastle, in the semi-final; the other semi-final was contested between Dominican College Portstewart and Limavady Grammar. Despite many attempts, Loreto could not manage to score in the first half; however, the team’s form returned in the second half, and the final score was 3-2 in the home side’s favour.

The final saw Loreto competing against local rivals Dominican College and was a very tightly contested match, with the score 1-1 at the turn-around.

Unfortunately the Loreto side did not perform to its best in this match, despite the encouragement and coaching from Year 11 netball stars Aoife Boorman and Darcey Kelly, from the sidelines!

The Dominican College side emerged as Year 8 Champions, with Loreto valiant runners-up.

Mrs Maureen McCullough, Head of PE at Loreto College, commended all the teams on a great day’s competition and a great start to their netball careers, as well as congratulating all the Loreto players who had attended training weekly for many months, and had distinguished themselves in a full day of competition.
