Successful memorial competition at Islandderry

THE Fyfe-McFadden Memorial Competition was recently held at Islandderry Fishery, Dromore supporting the Chest, Heart and Stroke charity.

The McFadden brothers, Ronnie, Matthew and William from Lisburn, are avid fly fishermen and wanted to hold a competition at Islandderry in memory of their father and brother who were both very keen anglers. The competition will be an annual event at the fishery.

There was a good turnout with a first prize of £100 cash to the angler with the heaviest bag of 3 trout. Gerry Teggart from Belfast landed a lovely 5lb trout early on in the competition which prompted some anglers into releasing alot of their fish caught looking for that big fish. Noel Roberts, Portadown, thought he was going to give Gerry a run for his money when he hooked into one of the big trout but unfortunately never got it into the boat which left Gerry with the biggest trout caught and first place with a 3 fish bag of 9lb1.

Second place went to Joe McCleary, Lisburn with a 3 fish bag for 8lb12 while third place went to Matt McFadden, Lisburn with his 3 fish for 8lb2. A great day was had by all with plenty of craic, food and lots of prizes donated for the ballot.

The McFadden brothers would like to thank all who supported their competition with a special thank you to Lowerys Pet shop in Smithfield, Lisburn, The windmill, Lisburn and all who donated prizes and helped make the day a success with £113 going to the chest, heart and stroke charity.

The next competition at Islandderry is the annual Robert Watson Memorial Trophy held on Saturday September 22 from 10am to 4pm. Entry fee is £25 per person which will include hot food, 3 fish C&R and boat. Both lakes will be used with bank anglers able to fish both the main lake and the Hollow Springs lake. All welcome.
