Successful soccer event draws to a close in Garvagh

A TEN week football event organised by Neighbourhood Police in Garvagh, in association with Coleraine District Policing Partnership and Coleraine Community Safety Partnership, has been an overwhelming success.

The event which was held for children of primary and secondary school age attracted over 120 young people from Garvagh, Kilrea, Boleran, Glenullan and Aghadowey.

Sergeant Hugh McCracken said: “The popularity of this cross community event has exceeded our wildest expectations, and the friendships that the young people have made over the past ten weeks I hope will be long lasting.

“We could not have hosted the event had it not been for the support of Patricia McQuillan Vice Chair Coleraine DPP, the Coleraine Community Safety Partnership and Constables John O’Connor, Andrew Young, James Smyth, and Adrian Gillan who erected the goal posts, marked out the pitches and refereed the matches.

“Thanks must also go to the Kilrea Community Forum, the Public Health Agency, Coleraine Rural and Urban Network, the young people themselves and their parents.

“I believe that the young people who took part have gained from the experience. This can only help to enhance a sense of community spirit and well being in the area,” concluded Sergeant McCracken.
