Successful start for Eoghan Rua under 14’s

Eoghan Rua’s Under-14 footballers began their Derry Feile na nOg campaign last Sunday as they hosted Lavey and Dungiven at Pairc Eoghain Rua.

It proved to be a very successful start as the home side won both of their games.

First up it was Lavey and despite playing against the strong downfield wind Eoghan Rua took a 1-0 to 0-1 lead into the break. After Lavey took an early lead with a point the home side dominated possession but failed to put away their chances.

Just past the mid-point of the half Aidan McGonigle did well to goal for Eoghan Rua. Just a minute into the second half Liam Tosh scored Eoghan Rua’s second goal. When Aidan McGonigle tacked on a couple of points in quick succession it seemed the home side would have a comfortable last six or seven minutes. However Lavey enjoyed their best spell and a goal four minutes from the end threatened to make it a nervy finish for Eoghan Rua. However points from Gino McGinn and Liam Tosh eased the Coleraine side to a 2-4 to 0-4 win. Goalkeeper Callum Biggart was safe throughout while full backs 0isin Roughan, Aidan Boyle and Conall McGinn Devlin Donnelly and Gino McGinn.

In their second game against Dungiven Eoghan Rua won the toss and opted to play with the aid of the strong downfield wind in the first half. The home side got off to a good start with Dara McGoldrick goal after five minutes and kept up the pressure of the Dungiven goal throughout the half. Points from Kieran Lafferty, Joseph Mulholland and Aidan McGonigle helped them to a 1-3 to 0-1 half-time lead.

Two points early in the second half from Liam Tosh gave Eoghan Rua a seven point cushion to defend. Once again the Coleraine defence was immense as they held Dungiven to just one more poit while Aidan McGonigle completed the scoring for a fine 1-6 to 0-2 win for the homesters.

The Eoghan Rua panel was: Callum Biggart, Oisin Roughan, Aidan Boyle, Conall McGinn, Adam Kerr, Noah Lundy, Liam Ferris, Devlin Donnelly, Gino McGinn, Kieran Lafferty, Aidan McGonigle, Joseph Mulholland, Dara McGoldrick, Liam Tosh, Aidan McGinley, Callum Boorman, Oscar Grujewski, Conor Moore, Colum Lynch, Pearse Donaghey.
