Superb Beckett's make it a double

BECKETT'S Soccer Academy completed a superb double in what is their first ever season by defeating Coleraine FC at the Coleraine Showgrounds by four goals to two in the final of the North West and District Under 13's Cup Final.

The first half was an even affair although Coleraine took a 2-1 lead into the half-time interval. Beckett’s goal came from striker Lewis Magee.

The second half started with Beckett’s on the attack, clearly having shrugged off their first half nerves.

The young team from the Toon soon equalised with an excellent goal from Chloe McCarron.

Then an own-goal saw Beckett’s back in the lead 3-2 and now playing the fast flowing football they are renowned for.

After a series of glaring misses and having struck the woodwork twice, Beckett’s finally put the result beyond doubt when ace marksman Kieran Neill scored goal number four.

Kieran also had what appeared to be a perfectly good goal disallowed.

However the 4-2 scoreline was enough to see Beckett’s captain Dano Scozzari go up and collect the cup much to the delight of the large support who made the short journey to Coleraine for the Ballymoney team.

Winning the cup was the perfect end to the season for Beckett’s Soccer Academy as they already had the league title won some weeks previous.

Beckett’s Soccer Academy would like to thank the staff and players of Coleraine FC for their sporting play in the final.

With the season now over Beckett’s Soccer Academy is delighted to have played an entire league and cup campaign this season without one player receiving a yellow or red card.

Special mention must also go to the management staff of Ricky Wade, Johnny Nicholl and Willy Beckett for what can only be described as a truly wonderful season.

Also a very big thank you to all parents and custodians who supported the team all season, both home and away.

And also all the club sponsors who made this season possible plus the officials from Ballymoney Borough Council who are always willing to help.

A truly united effort by all.

The players will receive their league and cup winners medals at the league prizegiving and two receptions are planned in Ballymoney.
