Lurgan B team got off to a fine start with a great 13-shot victory in their opening Division 5 match at home to Warrenpoint – a game during which the home side never lost their winning spirit; maintaining the lead throughout to a confidence building finish.

On Rink 1 Wilfie McCullough, skip, well supported by Bobby Jones, Bobby Livingstone and Charlie Maguire, overawed S Gibney’s rink when they took the lead after the third end and raced to 18-4 at the halfway point.

The visitors fought back to no avail against McCullough’s strong rink that finished with another flourish to win superbly 32-14.

Michael Steen, Stewart Martin, Rodney McCarthy and Gerry Stewart, skip, on Rink 2 were all square at 10-10 at the midpoint but were unfortunate to lose by just one shot by 19-18 against E McLoughlin’s rink after lying four shots to win.

On Rink 3 Mike Parr, Brian Brown, Derek Henderson and Sam Neill, skip, set a challenging pace with five shot win on the first end against R Aiken’s rink, never losing their grip throughout to gain another vital point and an excellent 21-14 win.

Neil Sloan, skip, Melvyn Hamilton, Albert Houston and Vincent Devlin had a troublesome afternoon against E McGuffin’s rink. They tried hard but could not cope with the slicker opposition; eventually losing 24-13.
