Lurgan B came from behind to win by 38 shots against Lagan Valley on Tuesday night which sent them into third place in NIBA Division 5. The home side were 9 shots adrift at the halfway stage but played some tremendous bowls to take control and win 98–60.

Eamonn Quinn, skip, aided well by Gerry Stewart, Derek Henderson and Rodney McCarthy on Rink 1 held a slender lead of 5-4 but a magnificent 5-shot win followed by a triple-shot win on tenth end gave them a 14–4 lead. Quinn’s rink controlled from then on to win 31–10.

On Rink 2 were Vincent Devlin, Brian Brown and Dan Dempsey, Bobby Jones, skip. They were greatly troubled by the Lagan Valley rink and were down 13–3 after 9 ends, but the home rink went into top gear, urged on by Jones, to produce some fine winning ends to win the rink 22–20. On Rink 3 Gordon Bell skipped his rink to continued success with a fine win of 24–14.

There was another win for Sam Neill, skip, Jeffrey McCullough, Charlie Maguire and Neil Sloan had initial difficulties with their Lagan Valley opponents and were 11-3 down at the halfway point. Wins on the next three ends gave Neill’s rink the advantage at 13–11 and they went on to win 21–16.

Lurgan 1 Veterans travelled to Rathfriland and shared the points to keep them in the running for league honours.

Ivor Mitchell, skip, Declan McCabrey, Albert Houston and Mike Parr on Rink 1 battled back from a slow start to just get edged out 12–10.

Harry Cosgrove, skip, Brian Brown, Bobby Livingstone and Brendan Beattie came front 7-1 down to finish level 24-24.

Veteran’s team Lurgan 2 kept their top spot with a well-earned six point - seven shot win over Rathfriland 2.

Alan Briggs, skip, Peter McGrail, Derek Henderson and Rodney McCarthy on Rink 1 were out of luck losing 18–16. Bobby Ruddell, skip, Bobby Jones, Gordon Bell and Roy Poots won a tight battle 21-12.
