Support local sport plea

Following a question from local MLA Jonathan Craig, the DCAL Minister has hinted at further funding for local sporting clubs.

Responding to the Minister’s comments this week Mr Craig said, “Lisburn is very proud of our sporting clubs and the many sporting centres of excellence that we have in the City and the prospect of much needed funding for sports like Lisburn Racquets Club, Salto City of Lisburn Gymnastics Club, football and boxing clubs would be strongly supported. I welcome the positive comments from the Minister and will be lobbing hard for funding to be secured, which would be much welcome news and would help develop the expansion of sport in our City.”

Mr Craig added, “It is vital following on from Lisburn City being the first Council in Northern Ireland to be awarded the title of European City of Sport and the very successful visit to the Salto City of Lisburn Gymnastics Club from the Olympic winning Chinese Gymnastics team, that the Ministers demonstrats her support for sport in Lisburn. In this regard, I welcome the commitment from the Minister to meet with me and representatives from the Salto Club to look at future plans that they have for the Centre.”
