Supporters' club plays a vital role

Chairman Laurits Mackness has appealed for the support of members again this year to enable the club to make a similar contribution.

He revealed that the cost of membership this year has been increased as a result of the economic climate, but stressed that every penny raised was vital in helping preserve the future of the North West 200.

“From the club’s perspective, we enjoyed another successful year, despite a slight drop in membership numbers.

“I am appealing for further support from fans this year. Due to the current difficult economic situation, and in line with other clubs, we have reluctantly been forced to increase club membership to 7,” he said.

“The race package is on offer at a very attractive 30, which includes club membership, together with a race programme and a pass for admission to the paddock during all practice sessions and on race day.

“Funds raised by the club are vital to help preserve the race that we all love and want to see progress.”

Laurits is also keen to attract additional members to join the club committee.

“The club committee now comprises just two members and we are desperate to attract additional members. If you are in a position to assist, we’d be delighted to hear from you,” he said.

“The future of the North West 200 Supporters’ Club depends on its members.”

The club will have a stand at the Adelaide Motorcycle Festival at the King’s Hall in Belfast this weekend.

A range of merchandise will be on sale, plus club membership and the popular race package.

Last month, energy drink Relentless was confirmed as the title sponsor of the 2010 North West 200, which will take place on Saturday, May 15.
