Surf’s up at the East Strand as the 2013 WPFG rolls in to town

Coleraine Borough Council has been working with the team from the World Police and Fire Games to ensure that they have everything they require to host three of their most prestigious events in the Borough.

The first to be announced with dates and details is the Surfing competition.

Portrush is renowned for its amazing beaches, fantastic surf and fabulous hospitality, which is why East Strand Beach will be the main location for the Surf Kayaking, Beach Volleyball and the all important Surfing events. The competition is scheduled for Tuesday 6th, Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th August, starting each day at 10am with prize giving hosted at the end of each evening and it’s all free for spectators!

Paul le Fondré, Sports Coordinator said: “The 2013WPFG is proud to host this years surfing competition at East Strand Portrush, and spectators of the event are encouraged to spend the day at the beach as it is free.

“For the first time in the history of the World Police and Fire Service Games, we are proud to host the first ever Stand Up Paddleboard “SUP” event. SUP is fast becoming a recognized world wide sport and is a spectacle to both participate in and watch.”
