SATURDAY OCTOBER 20 - The Saturday sweeps over 14 holes have commenced and they will continue, weather permitting, until March next year.

And the standard of scoring in this, the first of them, was quite extraordinary.

Paul McAleavey played the 14 holes in 5 under par gross and only came second in the low section. Both he and Philip Mallon had 37 points and Philip won on countback.

Kenny Jones won the high section with yet another 37 pointer.

SECTION 0-9: 1st, Philip Mallon (9) 37 points; 2nd, Paul McAleavey (5) 37.

SECTION 10-18: 1st, Garth McDonald (16) 30; 2nd, Sherwin Curran (15) 30.

SECTION 19+: 1st, Kenny Jones (19) 37; 2nd, Leslie McCloy (22) 36.

SUNDAY OCTOBER 21 - Can you believe it? John Poots has become the 33rd different winner this year of the Sunday sweep. There couldn’t be too many players in this sweep who haven’t won it.

Paul Wylie and Peter Cruikshanks split the 2’s pot between them. They went home very happy.
