Sweet win for Tullygally

Tullygally 4 St Mary's 1

TULLYGALLY locked horns with Division 1 champions of the past two seasons, St Mary's at Kernan last Saturday and recorded their first league win over the Portadown side for over two years.

Both teams started with real gusto and tackles were flying in thick and fast, Tullygally were awarded a penalty with just two minutes on the clock when Brian Mallon was brought down in the box, Kieran McCann converting the spot-kick with some aplomb.

Tullygally were awarded a second spot kick for a handball eight minutes later and again Kieran McCann converted with another fine penalty.

St Mary's came back into the game with a goal of their own on the half-hour mark, to leave the score 2-1 at half-time.

Tullygally began the second half well and restored their two goal advantage when Danny Shanks scored a great headed effort from Brian Mallon's free-kick. Tullygally then asserted their authority on the game and were winning all the battles as St. Mary's ran out of ideas and the Craigavon men added a fourth goal when Brian Mallon played a one-two with Chris McDonald who passed to Daniel Ryan, Ryan then beat two men before squaring the ball to Kieran McCann who found the bottom corner in a clinical move which saw the Big striker complete his hattrick and hand Tullygally a much deserved win.

This was Tullygally's best performance of what has been a inconsistent start to the season and hopefully will set the standards needed to maintain a push for silverware this season. Last week's joker poker winner was Brenda Cassidy from Meadowbrook.

Tullygally host Banbridge Town Reserves in the Marshall cup next Saturday at Kernan with a 2.15pm kick-off.
