Swifts sweep aside Broomhedge Reserves

BANBRIDGE Rangers Swifts entertained Broomhedge Reserves at the Tech pitch in Banbridge on Saturday afternoon and came away with a 7-0 victory that somewhat flattered the visitors.

The side from the outskirts of Lisburn had an uphill task to keep up with the Gers from the first few minutes off the game as they were peppered with shots and crosses.

David Rogers opened the scoring on six minutes picking up a loose ball inside the box after some good work down the left hand side.

John McCahon had two efforts from range that fizzed over the bar and rounded the keeper on the quarter hour mark but his cross saw Jordan McCracken head inches wide at the back post.

Neil Wilson added the second goal of the afternoon on 18 minutes when he was allowed to cut inside from the left flank unopposed and unleashed a superb drive from 25 yards into the bottom corner.

Banbridge Rangers third string should have been well out of sight within the next 10 minutes with no less than eight shots from distance being gathered by the keeper when working the ball into the box would have created more dividends.

With ten minutes remaining before half time lively winger Christopher McGalddery added a third goal with a shot well placed into the bottom corner.

At half time the emphasis was placed on working the ball into better shooting opportunities to increase the scoreline rather than shoot on sight.

Within minutes the Gers were four up when Davy Rogers beat the offside trap and lifted the ball over the keeper for his second goal of the day. John McCahon made it five nil soon after when he took a quick corner kick before curling high over the keeper from an impossibly tight angle.

On the hour mark Chrissy McGladdery made it 6-0 to Rangers when he finished off a well worked move that started down the right hand side from experienced full back Davy Sterritt.

The Swifts notched up goal number seven with just under 20 minutes to go with McCahon sweeping home his second goal from the edge off the area.

Broomhedge’s only flurry forward saw keeper Jonny Parkes keep a clean sheet late on with a superb tip onto the crossbar before gathering the ball and dusting himself down.

This was a good all round team performance from Banbridge Rangers Swifts with Scott McAllister excelling at centre half to keep the pressure on the two teams above them in the league standings. This Saturday the Swifts travel to Richhill whilst the Reserves take on Warrenpoint Town at Cheney Park at the later time off 3.30pm.
