Swimming championships held in Lisburn

Over 300 swimmers competed in the prestigious Irish National Short Course (25m) Swimming Championships at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex in Lisburn recently.

The three day event was supported by Swim Ulster and Swim Ireland and attracted teams from across Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.

Presenting medals at the event, the Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Thomas Beckett said, “The Council was honoured to welcome clubs from Swim Ulster and Swim Ireland to the Council area.

“It was a privilege to host a national competition and meet many of the swimmers and their supporters who travelled a substantial distance to take part in the competition.

“I hope the clubs enjoyed their time with us and look forward to welcoming many of them back to the City in the future.”

Councillor Aaron McIntyre added, “Lagan Valley LeisurePlex has a proud history of hosting prestigious sporting events.”

“I was delighted to be part of its continued success hosting the Irish National Swimming Championships.

“It was been fantastic to watch swimmers compete at the highest level and I hope their success is a true inspiration to others to get involved in the sport.”
