SWIMMING: Records tumble as Larne's Conor Brines wins gold in Glasgow

Larne Swimming Club's Conor Brines has finished the 2016 season on a high after outstanding success at Scottish Nationals in Glasgow at the weekend.

Brines claimed a new Ulster senior record when he won the 100m butterfly in 53.8 seconds after setting a new Ulster benchmark in the 50m butterfly ‘B’ final.

Over Thursday and Friday, Brines made two ‘B’ finals in 200m and 50m butterfly. He went on to win the 50m butterfly ‘B’ final, attaining the third-fastest time from both A and B races and achieving a new Ulster Senior record in 24.10 seconds.

On Saturday he recorded a new personal best time of 23.92 in the 50m freestyle.

In Sunday’s 100m butterfly final, against top swimmers from Scotland and around Europe, he led from the start, holding off all challenges to win gold and a new Ulster record.

This season Conor has taken all the Ulster senior records in 50m and 100m butterfly short and long course.
