Switch on completes upgrade of floodlights

GLENAVON'S new and improved floodlighting system was officially switched on before Tuesday night's Carling Premiership match against Newry by IFA Chief Executive, Patrick Nelson.

The improvements are just part of the upgrading of Mourneview Park which will also see the renovation of the Hospital End and the demolition of a large part of the social club in the ground.

The funding to complete the improvements to the club’s floodlights was provided by the Irish Football Association through the FIFA Goal funding programme.

A spokesman for the IFA said: “The Club Licensing and Facilities Department of the Irish FA has been working for the past eighteen months in the delivery of the Floodlighting Improvement Project and Glenavon FC was successful in securing funding through the third phase of this programme. Previous phases of this programme have allowed five similar projects to be completed.”

Glenavon Chairman Adrian Teer commented: “We would like to thank the Irish Football Association for assisting the club in completing this project. Glenavon FC is currently undertaking a phased facility improvement programme at Mourneview Park and the installation of this new floodlighting system is an important step in this process.”

The Irish FA’s Club Licensing and Facilities Manager David McVeigh added:

“Working in close partnership with the officials of Glenavon Football Club, this project has been delivered in a timely manner and supports perfectly the significant efforts already made by all at the club in facility development.

“I would wish to offer Glenavon FC every success for the future and look forward to the completion of further floodlighting projects in the coming months.”
