Tae Kwon Do club prepare for world event

BALLYMENA Tae Kwon Do Club members are in training for the Open World Championships in Telford in Spetember.

The club comprises members from both the Ballymena and Antrim areas and are always on the lookout for new members.

The Ballymena club train in Ballykeel youth centre Mondays and Wednesdays 7 to 8. Antrim train at the forum Tues and Fri 6.30 to 7.30 kids and 7.30 to 8.30 adults.

AMong the Ballymena members are the Megaw family of father Norman, sons Jordan(16) Dylan (14) - both pupils at Ballee High school - and little sister Callie (9) who goes to Camphill. The club have high hopes for Dylan and Jordan.

Also competing from Ballymena will Arron Chung(14 Ballee school) ; sisters Kathryn (14 St Louis) and Jordayna Magill (8 St Marys Cargin).

Another family form Ahoghill will also be competing Lloyd (father), Craig (16 Cambridge House) and Leah (13 Cullybackey High).

The Antrim club have Nial Craig (9) and Aidan McCann (7) both of St Comgalls and Sean McCavenna (14) one of the founder members of the club some 9 years ago.

Defending her title will be Christine Jess who is current ladies green belt heavy weight world champion and Janice Harvey who was runner up in the same event.

The club also have high hopes for instructor Adam Askew 3rd degree black belt who has collected medals at previous world events.

Other Ballymena competitors include Henry Spence in the Executive (over 40 ) black belt section along with Ballymena instructor Peter Nicholl.

Former club black belt Connor Spence who now works and trains in Kings Lynn is also hoping to bring back a medal from the event.

Organisers are expecting some 2000 competitors for the these 9th open world championships from as far afield as America ,China, Eastern Europe.
