Taekwondo club strike gold at championships

THERE was medal success for members from Lisburn Taekwondo Club when they took part in the Northern Ireland Interclub Taekwondo Championships, held at Queens PEC on December 8.

Whilst this was the first competition for some of the junior members, it didn’t affect their performance, with some gaining two gold medals.

With over 175 competitors at the championships, it was a major event for the local club. However, the Lisburn team competed to a very high standard, with the team having one of their best overall performances to gain the club second best team trophy.

Chief Instructor, Master Peter Streart was impressed with the progress and attitude from all members competing on the day, some of whom were as young as six years old, but showed no sign of nerves.

Peter said: “It was great to see so many from the club competing and with more experience and traininh, I’m sure the club will continue to grow and compete at more national and international events.”

Peter added: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sport Lisburn for all their assistance throughout 2012 and hopefully the team will continue to improve throughout 2013 with more national and international events.”
