Taylor pleased with Moyola display

PORTSTEWART have two big games this week.

They face Lurgan Celtic tonight (Tuesday) and Queen’s on Saturday, and Portstewart boss Gary Taylor is hopeful his side can pick up wins, to secure their place in the top half of the Championship Two table.

“I said at the start of the season that I wanted to improve on our league position from last year.

“We are currently sitting seventh between Lurgan Celtic and Queen’s, so two wins this week would be a great end for us.

“We have two big games, but if the boys play like they did on Friday night, I hope we can take something from the two fixtures.”

Gary went on: “We’ve had a difficult season, we’ve had a lot of injuries, and this hasn’t allowed to us to get a settled team, but hopefully things have turned the corner for us now.”

Taylor was quick to praise his players for their performance at Moyola on Friday night. “The Moyola keeper was outstanding, he pulled off save after save.

“We attacked them from the start, and to be honest I think that’s the best we’ve played, it certainly made a nice change from last Saturday’s game at Lurgan Celtic, when we really didn’t turn up.”

Gary praised James Peden, who grabbed his first goal for the Seasiders and centre half Craig Ramsey: “James has been doing really for us.

“He actually played three games for the University this week as well as our league tie and I was pleased that he got his goal.

“Craig Ramsey played very well, he contained Paul Brown well. ‘Browner’ did cause us some problems early on. But Craig was excellent, he never gave him a kick.

“On the injury front, Graham Vauls picked up ligament damage in his ankle and will be out for the rest of the season, and we will see how Chris Donnell is, he hurt his ribs on Friday night, but hopefully should be available for Saturday.”
