Teenager secures maiden win at Faughan Valley

THE Cruse Charity Open Stableford competition, at Faughan Valley, on Sunday was claimed by teenager Adam McClements.

The 14-year-old scored 45 points to finish in first place, second was Ryan Wilson (20) who scored 44 points and on 43 points was Ailbe Beirne (20) with 43 points was third.

The first lady home was captain Margaret Armstrong (24) after she scored 38 points, with H Browne (19) with 36 points was second in the ladies section.

The gross winner was John H Kelly (10) after he scored 72 gross points, Gregory McGlinchey (9) with 24 points won the front nine with Peter Middleton (21) with 24 points claimed the back nine.

Nearest the pin at the 10th was Kevin Hunter (13) and Seamus O’Connell (17) hit the longest drive at the 11th hole.

Saturday’s open stableford competition was won after a break of tie finish by Dan Hinds (7) after he scored 37 points, while in second spot also on 37 points was Dave Inman (21) and James Lindsay (5) with 36 points was third, also after a BOT finish.

The mid-week open stableford competition was by Martin Mailey (21) with 42 points and Billy Simpson (23) with 36 points was third and Barry Reilly (16) with 35 points was third.

Members are reminded that time-sheets are available for Trevor Lewers’ Captain’s Day, which takes place on Saturday, August 21, while there are two more weeks remaining in the Iron’s competition and Week 8 takes place this week.

On Saturday the Open Stableford competition is down for decision, while on Sunday there’s a monthly medal stroke competition up for grabs.
