Teletots settle for second spot

THE Teletots league season came to an end at the Robinson Centre in Belfast for the grand finale between Ards, Templemore and Lisburn. Lisburn captains Zoe Smyth and Cameron McAteer intended leading their team to victory.

The 4x25M Medley Relays was the first event of the evening. In the 'A' Group Ards took the top points and Lisburn young swimmers; Jamie Allison, Caoli Maginess, Cameron Loan and Nadine Pollock had to be content with third place. In the 'B' Group Andrew Edgar, Namona Teggart, Rachel Bethel and Dariush Abelekhoob got second place in a time of 1.14.40. the 'C' Group relay team Neil Saulters, Nikhita Dowie, Keelan Logan and Amy Seawright gave a brave perfoamcne and got a third.

The 'D' Group swimmers, Cameron McAteer, Ruth Russell, Alex Walker and Alexandra Hunter had a tight race but were pipped into second place by a very strong Ards team.

At the end of the first event Ards and Templemore were joint leaders. Next up the individual Backstroke races, 'B' Group girl Rachel Bethel won comfortably and a new pb of 18.86. Amy Seawright and Ruth Russell got second place points. 'D' Group swimmer Zoe Smyth got third place points and a new personal best. Templemore stretched ahead and dominated most of the Age groups.

The Breaststroke saw Nikhita Dowie taking full points in the 'C' Group girls and get herself a new pb. Jonny Stewart had a strong Breaststroke just getting pipped into second place by a Templemore swimmer. The competition was tight, but the Lisburn swimmers continued to fight. The Butterfly event saw Rachel Bethel take full points and earn herself a personal best of 16.34. Amy Seawright kept the pressure on and got full points in her fly race. 'C' Group boy Keelan Logan secured second place points and a new personal best of 17.16. In the 'D' Group races Ruth Russell secured 1st place whilst Club Captain Zoe Smyth got second place and in the boy's race Alex Walker and Club Captain Cameron McAteer earned valuable points for the team with Cameron getting a personal best of 15.72.

The Freestyle event saw a great swim from 'A' Group swimmer Nadine Pollock. She secured third place and got herself a new personal best of 18.84. 'A' Group boy Cameron Loan continued the form getting third place points and a new pb. Rachel Bethel claimed another first place and a new pb of 14.43. 'B' Group boy Dariush Abelehkoob got second place and a pb. Amy Seawright had a great swim and got second place points while 'C' Group boy Keelan Logan secure some points for his team and a new pb for himself..'D' Group swimmers Ruth Russell and Cameron McAteer added to the scoreboard by getting 2nd place points. A brave performance by the Lisburn swimmers but not enough the lead was ever stretching and Templemore was now ahead by 47 points.

The final event of the evening was the 4x25M Freestyle relay. First up was the 'A' Group swimmers; Rebecca Woods, Cameron Loan, Nadine Pollock and Jamie Allison, they gave a gutsy effort but the Templemore and Ards team was just too strong and Lisburn had to be content with 3rd place. The Lisburn 'B' Group quartet of Andrew Edgar, Dariush Abelehkoob, Namona Teggart and Rachel Bethel had a super race, on the wire right to the finish with Lisburn just holding on against their opponents Templemore and finishing first. The 'C' Group Lisburn team of Keelan Logan, Rebecca Sands, Neil Saulters and Amy Seawright had a strong race and finished second. The final event was the 'D' Group race and the oldest swimmers within the Teletots team. The foursome of Cameron McAteer, Alexandra Hunter, Alex Walker and Ruth Russell knew it would be tough against their opponents. Gutsy performances by all four and they secured first place in a time of 57.01 with Ards tight behind on 57.78, a close one, but they had done enough.

It was all over and the Lisburn had to be content as runners up with Templemore tops on 318 points, Lisburn second on 271 and Ards third on 251.
